According to Lifestyle Asia, legendary Hong Kong DJ Kulu died at 79. He was born in Wanchai and became a photographer in the UK before coming back to Hong Kong and becoming a DJ at 50.

The Second China (Sichuan) Ethnic Music Week concluded with a five-hour New Year’s Eve concert featuring ethnic minority bands according to the China Daily.

The Spring Festival Gala on CCTV: Was It Worth Watching?
It never is.
This year the Spring Festival Gala 春節晚會 featured robot dancing the Yangge (“Yangge Bot”) joined by dancers from Xinjiang Arts University, and filmed by Zhang Yimou, perhaps the peak of his directorial career after Hero, according to SCMP.
At least we got to see Faye Wong performing her new song, 《世界赠予我的》.
SCMP also notes that the American band One Republic made a rare appearance at the Gala, a sign of relaxation vis-à-vis the US during the new trade war? (There was also an American “friend of China” featured at some point).
The Spring Festival Web Gala (the more “fun” version of the Festival Gala) featured a band of elderly rockers, whose members only started learning musical instruments after retirement according to CGTN.
