Commemorating the 30th anniversary of Teresa Teng’s death
This May marks the 30th anniversary of Taiwanese popular singer Teresa Teng untimely death. A remembrance service was held in Taiwan on May 8, drawing fans from across Asia to pay their respects according to The Straits Times. The Japanese NHK also did a segment on Teresa Teng’s 30th death anniversary. An article published by Taiwan Insight (the University of Nottingham Taiwan Research Hub) recalls the importance of Teng’s songs for Taiwan and China. Another article in Joysauce insists on Teng’s legacy of the Chinese diaspora. American-born Chinese Violinist Nancy Zhou talks about the influence of Teresa Teng in her musical education in The Strad. In other Teresa Teng’s news, her family slammed a rumor that she had a child with Jackie Chan, according to Yahoo.

The first K-pop bands to tour China?
The Korean pop band EPEX is expecting to be the first K-pop band to tour China since the K-pop ban after THAAD crisis of 2016, in Fuzhou on May 30th according to the French website K-Gen. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, EPEX postponed their concert, according to Korea Times. But don’t despair, apparently a K-pop festival is scheduled to rock Hainan island this fall, according to Yonhap News, before it is postponed again?

Mayday Taipei’s concert sell out in 10 minutes
Despite the numerous controversies surrounding Mayday, their upcoming show in Taipei sold out in a matter of minutes, according to Focus Taiwan. TVBS also notes that Mayday concert is going to boost Taiwan tourism industry in June and July, when the pop-rock band is going to perform in Taipei. In other Mayday news, the band became the summer ambassador of Starbucks, according to China Daily.

Nancy Kwai on love and Albert Leung
The Young Post published an article on the Hong Kong singer Nancy Kwai, who just released her second EP. She talks about unrequited love and Albert Leung (Lin Xi), the famous Hong Kong lyricist.
Leah Dou on the cover of play/GROUND
The indie pop singer Leah Dou, daughter of Faye Wong and Dou Wei, made the cover of the new magazine created by the Chinese toymaker Pop Mart, play/GROUND, which received a lot of positive reviews online according to the SCMP.

A new music festival record in China
The music festival BUBBLING & BOILING organized in Tianjin broke a new record for ticket purchase, drawing over 100,000 attendees from May 2 to May 4 during the May Day holiday. The event generated also more than 60 million yuan in consumption across surrounding industries such as accommodation, transportation and dining, according to China Daily. The festival featured artists as Omnipotent Youth Society, the Taiwanese 告五人, or A-Lin. Another article in the Beijing Review recalls the economic importance of such music festivals these days.
Fans of Nicholas Tse get scammed
According to SCMP, fans of Cantopop singer Nicholas Tse Ting-fung have reported losses of over 900 000 HKD from suspected ticket scams linked to the star’s recent concerts in Hong Kong.
Chthonic releases a new live EP, Freddy appointed as Taiwan’s representative to Finland
According to Chaos Zine, the Taiwan metal band Chthonic released a new live EP recorded during the last Megaport festival. The lead singer Freddy Lim, also a Taiwanese MP (independent, DPP leaning) was also appointed as Taiwan’s representative (de facto ambassador) to Finland, according to The New York Times. Lots of metal band in Finland too.

Clockenflap announces an early line-up
Hong Kong most important music festival announced an early line-up, composed of Franz Ferdinand, Jacob Collier, Rich Brian, Portishead’s Beth Gibbons, Yoga Lin Youjia and Panther Chan according to the SCMP.
Nominations for the next Golden Melody Awards
Taiwanese indie band Sunset Rollercoaster and South Korean outfit Hyukoh collectively received the most nominations at this year’s Golden Melody Awards, earning a total of seven nods from the jury on Wednesday according to Taipei Times.
